Medicare
Who qualifies for Medicare? People age 65 or older, under age 65 with certain disabilities, and/or those with End-Stage Renal Disease
When do I start the Medicare process?
When you’re first eligible for Medicare, at age 65, you get an initial enrollment period. This lasts for 7 months and starts 3 months prior to your birth month, includes your birth month, and then ends 3 months after your birth month. This is your open enrollment and you can join any plan you’d like.
If you decide not to enroll during this time and you do not have insurance that is considered credible coverage, then you could be subject to premium penalties and delays when coverage can start.
